There will always be things that annoy me in the office:
- unimaginative Art Director proposing unflattering designs for ads.
- fake faces pretending to be interested in the work.
- nosy people showing great yet unwelcome interest in our work.
- big-headed people thinking that we have more than 2 arms and can get things done within seconds!
The list is endless.
But, today, another thing happened that annoyed me to the core.
(Well, it was nobody’s fault, but when I’m annoyed, I’m annoyed! Can’t help it)
The story was…
The company has been selected by this huge telco to testify on the benefits of using their Business Fixed Line Solutions – i.e: the 1-300 numbers. Apart from the company, Sepang International Circuit was also chosen. And, for this testimonials project, the telco has been and will be publishing full-page, full-coloured ads in major newspapers in the country. To add on, they are engaging Ogilvy& Mather for the project. So, you can imagine the amount of moolah they are spending, on this thingy alone!
But, it’s THAT big telecommunication company. Nothing is TOO big for them!
Few kids were chosen to be talents for the ad, together with my lady boss, or let's call her: Lady Gaga. Known to be awkward in her fashion style, we had to pull hair selecting the ‘best’ attire to suit the ad concept. When we were done with the selection, we had to take shots of the (terpaksa kata OK) attire to be sent to the telco and Ogilvy.
Let’s not get me into talking about coordinating for the talents, liaising with the school principal and getting consent from parents! Thank God, one of my staff $has helped a lot in the whole thing.
This morning, the agency people came at 8am to set up the lighting and whatnot. The kids were there at 9am, and they were immediately sent off for hair & make up. Waaa, preschool kids these days! They really are stars in the making!
Lady Gaga arrived in the office at almost 11am, when she wonderfully texted me last nite telling that she would be in at 10.15am! Unfashionably late!!!
She called me up telling that she wanted the hair & make up guy to come to her room. She wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it in front of the kids (or in other words: she wouldn’t wanna be seen sans make up!) Unfashionably demanding!!!
It’s taken 1 ‘grueling’ hour to finally get her butt in the centre for the photoshoot! Gosh! Talk about ‘grand entrance’ huh?? Thank God (again), the kids didn’t throw any tantrums in any ways.
After almost 2 hours of snapping here and there, the session was wrapped! Then, one of the telco staff came to Lady Gaga and said: “XXX, thank you so much for your cooperation. As a token, we would like to give you an iPhone. All we need is just the details of the person to be registered for the line.”
My jaw dropped, somewhere, on the floor.
Lady Gaga replied: “Owh… thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I don’t think it will be me who’s gonna use it. I will give it to my son. He has been asking for an iPhone from me. According to him, his current phone is already out of trend.”
My jaw dropped, again.
We did all the work.
We had to put up with the headache.
All she did was arrived late and yacking away.
And she’s the one taking home an iPhone.
Nothing is fair in this world huh?
